NEW ERA TICKETS SUPPORTS TWO CLASSICS
January 28, 2012, EXTON, PA – New Era Tickets was excited to work on the 2011 Carrier Classic, a new twist to the traditional NCAA Basketball game that took place on the United States Navy Aircraft Carrier USS Carl Vinson on Veteran’s Day on November 11th, as well as, the annual NHL Winter Classic held on January 2, 2012 at Philadelphia’s Citizen’s Bank Park.
The Carrier Classic was an innovative variation to the conventional basketball tournament. It helped celebrate the men and women of the Armed forces by providing them with a highly anticipated basketball game between rivals University of North Carolina and Michigan State University. A temporary basketball court was created on the flight deck of the USS Carl Vinson with seating for 7,000 spectators. The event boasted a prestigious guest list that included President Barack Obama and exclusive entertainment during half-time and postgame and was broadcasted live on ESPN.
“This event is completely different than anything that we have ever done before,” said Ron Freidman, Director of Technology for New Era Tickets. “Playing on an aircraft carrier with the President in attendance created unique challenges. New Era staff had to process fans through a multiple tiered security screening procedure that included confirming the fans’ name and last 4 digits of social security found on each individual ticket, with their respective forms of ID.”
“Being this was the first event of its kind and no tickets were available to the general public,” said VP of Client Services, Steve Geib, “New Era Tickets was able to provide a great amount of flexibility in dealing with the unique situation and aided in the huge success of Carrier Classic.”
The annual NHL Winter Classic was held at the Citizen’s Bank Park right after New Year’s Day on one of the coldest days of the season. The inclement weather did not however stop over 45,000 fans from pouring in to the event and cheer for rivals Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers. The Monday’s prime-time game was highlighted two days prior in the alumni game featuring former stars from either team.
“New Era Tickets allowed fans access to simplified ticketing,” said President and CEO of New Era Tickets Fred Maglione, “which only helped build more excitement for the Winter Classic.” He added, “It enhanced the ultimate experience that fans have come to expect from such an annual tradition.”
